Why mobile gaming will never beat console gaming

Mobile gaming has earned its popularity in recent years. The most reasonable explanation for this is because right now “Who doesn’t own a phone?”. Because of this reason, people see a mobile phone as an easiest and convenient alternative to do gaming on the go. It’s fit in your pocket and always with you.

Console gaming earns its popularity way long ago. The first console ever release is at the year 1972; Magnavox Odyssey. That is how old console gaming is. The evolution of console gaming is changing by the time and its always get better and better.

The battle of the console and mobile gaming start to emerge when the mobile industry gets better. More RAM, storage and with its capacity, we can now able to game high-end games anywhere. But, does this means console gaming will be over? Let me list down all the highlight between console versus mobile gaming. Let the showdown begin!

i) Controller

This is something I must give the win to console gaming. With its dedicated controller and polish movement, control on console is always better compared to mobile gaming. Yes, you can argue with accessories that are now available it gives phone better control but, it will never beat the quality to control things like console gaming. Even with additional accessories, controlling games on the mobile phone will always feel clunky and awkward.

Verdict: Console Gaming

ii) Price

When you have more power, then it will definitely increase your responsibility. Well, in this case; higher price. The mobile phone has evolved so fast in a short amount of time that makes it impossible to keep up with all newly released phone in the market. And it’s become a norm for us, the higher spec the phone released, the higher the price will be. Since we are talking about mobile gaming, I will take an example for a phone which specifically designed for gaming (hint: Razor phone and ASUS ROG phone). When we compared this high—end gaming phone like ASUS ROG phone to console gaming like PS4 Pro, the prices range differently. ASUS ROG will most likely cost you $1050 for the 512GB option compared to PS4 Pro which only cost you $399 for the 1TB edition.

Verdict: Console Gaming

iii) Fan – based

In order for a company to success, they need to be backed up by a loyal customer. Nintendo, for example, lingers from our childhood to our adulthood if you are millennial like me. The evolution of Nintendo consoles is being followed by their die-hard fans. And this fan is not hundreds. They are around the world and comprise millions of them. They are very passionate and stay loyal to Nintendo and this what makes Nintendo stay alive until today. Not only Nintendo but most of the console companies know they have huge communities that always have their back. I’ve been to this kind of PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One communities and yes, you can see how passionate they are.

The exact communities can also be found in mobile phone fans. They have millions of die-hard fans willing to queue whenever new phone are being released to the market every year (hint: iPhone).

Verdict: Console Gaming & Mobile Gaming

iv) Games Option

This is another easy win by the console. Let me be clear I am talking about AAA games. Currently, there are tons of triple-A games available only on a console and most of the development revolve around the console. Games like Forza Horizon 4, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Final Fantasy 15 are all exclusive to their respective consoles and none of these games can be beaten up by any games on mobile phones.

Verdict: Console Gaming

v) Portability

Mobile phones nowadays are compact and we carry them with us almost everywhere. And this makes gaming easy on the go. This is the only reason the mobile phone is being craved by the majority; the portability. Unlike some console which is only playable when you are at home, the mobile phone takes this to their advantage.

Verdict: Mobile Gaming

And so, based on all the highlights; the controller, price, fan-based, games option and portability, the win goes to console gaming. Console gaming is superior because of its control, lower price and tons of triple-A games.

But wait, as we cannot predict the future, who knows what will happen in the next 5 years to come. Does mobile gaming can finally defeat console gaming or will mobile and console gaming merge to create one ultimate gaming experience? As if for now, the crown goes to console gaming.
