Do you remember Farmville? A Facebook game that once upon a time became a worldwide sensation. Well, to summarize, Farm Together is Farmville on steroids.
The first release of this game is in October 2018 to the PC platform and then followed by Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS4. Farm Together did not become a major highlight like its competitor, Stardew Valley but this game is still worth a shot. In this review, we will look further into the gameplay, performance, and online multiplayer. Is it worth your time? How about the graphics and performance? And does the game appeal to everyone?
Farm Together is all about farming. How obvious is that? Farm Together does not have any storyline like Stardew Valley where you have a story going on with the main character and how everything revolves around Stardew Valley and its community. Instead, in Farm Together, after creating your own avatar and picking your farm layout, you immediately jump into your plot of land and have a quick tutorial to get you going. After that, you are very much on your own. You can freely do what you want to do. Planting plants, taking care of your livestock, decorating your farms, and choosing your pet as you leveling up. As you progress further, more items will be unlocked and as well as more plot of farms will be made available so you can expand it further.
The game mechanic differs greatly from any other farm genre out there. The normal approach is when you spend more days or hours in the game, your crops will grow and later ready for harvest. While in Farm Together, the approach is more towards mobile gaming style. To grow crops, it will consume real time. As for example, to harvest strawberry you need 1 day 12 hours, sunflower 12 hours, asparagus 1 hour and so on and so forth.
However, your crops will grow faster if you constantly watering them when it is needed. And the timer will still continue even you quit the game. This approach put a mix feeling to us. Some people go against it as they feel cheated and believe gaming in consoles should not create to be similar to mobile gaming. On the other hand, some people welcome this decision to make Farm Together to be this way and really enjoy it. As for me, I somehow like it and accept it with an open arm.
A similar concept has been applied to Warframe where crafting weapon, items, and
ii) Graphic and Performance
Generally, the game runs perfectly on all platform. The graphics are fantastic. I love how they design the game and the character. Their decorations are very well made too. While I’m busy decorating my farm, I’m shocked that when my tree house completed, I can now go inside it and even decorate the interior of my house. However, I really hope that in the future they will add more decorations, furniture, and more stuff into Farm Together so I could satisfy my hunger to have my ideal fantasy farm.
iii) Online Multiplayer
The hint is already in the game’s title, isn’t it? Farm Together allow you to farm with your friends or even anyone who go online. You can set your game to be either public or private and set what they can do when visiting your farm. Apart from that, their actions also can be monitored by limiting what they can do when they come and visit your lovely farm.
By visiting other farms, you will get experience boost meter in which allows you to get double experience for a farm you own. In order to get this experience boost, you need to visit other’s farm and help them with their harvest and any task related to farming.
Farm Together really has a lot of potentials. With its nice graphics, it is easy to indulge yourself hours in this game. The control is simple, and the gameplay is easy to master within minutes. The freedom you get to design your farm is the real addiction to this game. However, more contents are needed such as weekly events and more decorations to be added to this game to make people come back to Farm Together. Hopefully, Milkstone Studios will get the feedback and strive to make positive development to this game in their next updates.
