Can Gaming be your Career?

Having a full-time career as a gamer is a dream job for most of us who love gaming. Who doesn’t love to work doing things that you love to do, right?

But one question remains to be answered, “Can you make gaming as your career?”. This question if asked a few decades ago, the answer would be a no but with our current gaming progression and how rapid the growth of this industry has become, the answer now would be a yes.   

The gaming industry can be divided into two sections; (1) the game developers and (2) gamers. The developers comprise of the companies that create the game. And on the other hand, we have the gamers who participate in those game releases by the developers via participation, interaction, and viewership.  

This article will specifically be showing all the possible careers that (2) gamers could take for their future. In order to pursue your dreams to make gaming as your career, there are several approaches you could take that lead you to your goal.   

All of these careers are a real job that exists and all the people involve are making money as we speak and live their life as a full-time gamer.   

i) Esports  

The word might seem foreign but the concept is the same as other sports out there. Esports is estimated to be valued at $905.6 million globally and it is where gamers are played competitively against another player. There are a lot of genres of games out there that involve esports. The esports is as old as gaming is but the only difference nowadays is the stakes are getting higher and the dedication gamers put making the games are competitive.  

There are prize pools that run in millions, audience travel across the globe to watch their teams play and the gameplay are broadcast all around the world. This phenomenon gives esports the best highlight it could take with major brands investing in the gaming industry and building large conventional esports stadiums.  

If you are incredibly talented and devote a lot of time each day to practice gaming, then maybe being a professional gamer might suit you as your career. Professional gamers earn the same as professional athletes; from sponsored tournaments and personal sponsorships.  

ii) Video Game Live Streaming   

Streaming online is a form of online video broadcast on specialized platforms where you will play games and entertain your viewers. This method to generate cash has made gamers to become a full – time video game live streaming or also known as streames and earn a comfortable six-figure or more income monthly. And yes, the best streamers to mention is Pewdiepie.  

This kind of career is well – suited for a person who has good charisma. However, making this to work is not an easy task either. Streamers need to put a lot of effort to build their community with regular content and engagement. More viewers will mean more brand sponsors will come to offer their product to advertise and being endorse on their stream. This will result in more commission to be earned by the streamers.  

iii) Youtuber  

YouTuber works same as streamers; they create gaming content to attract people to subscribe to their channel and earn money with each viewer that they made by uploading their video to Youtube.  

However, getting into this business as a beginner might seems hard for you since a lot of content on Youtube is already saturated. But ease your mind because there is still a way around it. The first thing you need to tackle is to have an original and fresh content for viewers to see. Be extraordinary and be creative to create something that people want to see about gaming.   

After gaining a lot of subscribers and viewers, you can then increase the income by participating in affiliate programs to try to promote products you believe could bring benefits towards other gamers.   

iv) Video Game Tester  

This career requires you to have some qualifications and experience in the related field. If you are qualified, this would be a great way for you to play games to do your job. Also known as Beta Testers, video game testers are tasked to detect bugs, glitches, and flaws as they test the video games. They also need to make sure it functions properly and all the game instructions and documentation are clear.
